This place doesn't look like much at first, but take the tour and you should see why this site is a national treasure. Find out what people were doing in this harsh inhospitable environment 16,000 years ago. It's lousy farmland and hardly suitable for livestock. Find out how people survived. It's one of only 15 mammoth kill sites in North America. Has what is quite possibly the oldest evidence of a man-made building structure on the continent. Find out how hurricanes contributed to scientists' ability to date the site. If you like cerebral and fun, this is well worth setting aside a few hours for.
Amazing place to visit and right in our backyard
Ooookay folks, big news. This is actually my day job.... I am an archaeologist and recently appointed co-principal investigator, of the world famous Gault Site. I have been working as a researcher on this site for the past ten years. It is an incredibly important site that was once famous for being the most prolific Clovis age site, but now work at Gault has broken the boundaries of Texas archaeology pushing back the timescale to over 16,000ka years of human inhabitants. The Gault Site is host to the best and some of the earliest evidence related to latest research on the peopling of the Americas
Great journey back in time!!
One of the most important sites in North America for information about the first people to inhabit this region. Besides its importance in the archaeological world, the countryside is gorgeous, and for anyone who is interested in the First Americans, if you get the chance, it's a Must See. I have been bringing my archaeology students here every semester eight times running, and I still look forward to each trip like its the first time.
